Describe the telephone engineer

Deadly words in any household, “What do you do all day?” It seems like a simple question, but it is often loaded with innuendo and subtext that implies that the questioner does not think anyone but them does anything worthwhile.  I know this so I was trying to find a non-confrontational way to ask my brother about his job as a telephone engineer.  I genuinely do not know. He sent me a link to a website that gave a very thorough description of what at his job entails and what the average salary is and what kind of skills and abilities and talents the job requires. That did not help me at all, so I sent him a link that had a graphic and technical description of how the human heart works. That’s part of what I do all day, but it doesn’t really tell him anything, because that’s exactly how I felt.
